The State of Qatar provides national health coverage for all residents of Qatar, by providing them with a health card. Georgetown University in Qatar assists international students to obtain and renew their health card. Qatari citizens and residents are responsible for obtaining and renewing their health card and providing a copy of it to the Student Wellness & Counseling Center upon their admission to the university.
What Medical Resources are Available for Medical Concerns ?
Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is the non-profit health care provider in Doha that manages Primary Health Care Centers. Primary Health Care Centers provide basic health, dental and vision care that are covered by the National (Hamad) Health Card with no or nominal fee. What is the Closest Primary Health Care Center to the Campus?
Al Gharafa Health Center is the newest and closest primary health care center to Education City and is located near Al Gharafa municipality and before Al Gharafa Stadium. The center offers primary medical, dental, visual, and lab services. Students should take their valid National (Hamad) Health Card and passport and present these upon arrival. You do not need to make an appointment. A referral from a primary health care center is necessary for any specialized medical care provided by Hamad Hospital.

The Hamad Medical Corporation manages numerous hospitals, both specialized and general community, which provide outpatient and inpatient specialized care. Private clinics, polyclinics, and medical centers that provide only outpatient care are also available in Doha. For many, you will have to make an appointment and use your supplementary private insurance to assist with the charges.
What Inpatient Medical Services are Available in Doha?
Students requiring observation or overnight accommodations for their illness are admitted to and cared for at the Hamad Hospitals with nominal fee with using their national health card. There are also several private hospitals in Doha that provide services for fee. To be able to access private hospitalization, GU-Q has arranged for you to purchase a comprehensive supplementary private student health insurance. Alternatively, you may use other private insurance you might have, if you have opt out of the insurance plan arranged by GU-Q.
How Should I Pay for Off Campus Medical Services?
There is direct billing arrangement between some health care providers in Doha and the insurance arranged by GU-Q. Please check with your insurance policy and long into your insurance account to find if the requested services are covered and if there is direct billing arrangement in place.
