Is there a medical clinic in Education city?

Yes. There are two clinics serving Education City community. The old clinic is located in Recreation Center and is staffed by a nurse for first aid services free of charge for all Education City students. The new Qatar Foundation Medical Clinic (QF Care Clinic) located in the Education City Community Housing Lot #3 offers primary medical care, emergency medicine, primary dental care, and pharmacy services. Some services are free of charge and some services are for fee. If you are enrolled in StudentCare Plus Plan offered by Georgetown University, SFS-Qatar, you will be able to get reimbursment for those services that are covered in your insurance policy. The new QF Care Clinic is staffed by general practice physicians and nurses. The medical staff may provide a brief medical evaluation; make referrals as necessary; and write prescriptions for medications. There is a pharmacy available in the new QF Care Clinic.

Where are the clinics located?

The old QF Medical Clinic is located on campus in the Recreation Center on the first floor, just past the swimming pool changing rooms.

The new QF Care Clinic is located off campus in the Education City Community Housing Lot #3.

There are free transporation available from Education City to the QF Care Clinic in the Education City Community Hoursing, Lot #3. You may call one of the following numbers to transport you:

How do I access the clinic?

For first aid that does not need attendance of a physician, viist the old QF Medical Clinic on campus in Recreation Center. For treatment of common and non-urgent health problems visit new QF Care Clinic. No appointment is required to receive services.

Off Campus Medical Services

The state of Qatar provides national health coverage for all residents of Qatar, by providing them with a health card.

What medical resources are available for routine medical concerns?  

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is the non-profit health care provider in Doha that manages Primary Health Care Centers. Primary Health Care Centers provide basic health, dental and vision care that are covered by the National (Hamad) Health Card with nominal fee. Visit HMC website for a list of Primary Health Centers or call 447-8911.

What is the closest Primary Health Care Center to the campus?

Al Gharrafa Health Center is the newest and closest primary health care center to Education City and is located near Al Gharrafa municipality and before Al Gharrafa Stadium. The center offers primary medical, dental, visual, and lab services. Students should take their valid National (Hamad) Health Card and passport and present these upon arrival. You may also take a referral letter from Student Wellness Counseling to facilitate access to services, especially if you do not have your National Health Card yet. You do not need to make an appointment.

What are the resources for specialized medical concerns?

The Hamad Medical Corporation manages four specialized hospitals providing outpatient and inpatient specialized care:

What inpatient medical services are available in Doha?

Students requiring observation or overnight accommodations for their illness are admitted to and cared for at the Hamad Hospitals with nominal fee with using their national health card. There are also several private hospitals in Doha that provide services for fee. To be able to access private hospitalization, SFS-Q has arranged for you to purchase a comprehensive supplementary private student health insurance called StudentCare Plus Plan underwritten by Interglobal insurance company.

What type of medical tests are required? 

The Qatar Foundation requires new international students to undergo, and test negative to, a chest x-ray for Tuberculosis, HIV antibody, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C tests. To ensure residency, Qatar Foundation recommends that international students take the above tests before coming to Doha. Nevertheless, Qatar Foundation in coordination with SFS-Q will arrange for  these medical tests after students arrive in Doha. In addition to these medical tests, Georgetown University School of Foreign Services in Qatar requires all students at the time of registration to provide a certificate of immunization and Tuberculosis skin test completed by a primary care physician.
