GU-Q Alumni Contribute to Qatar Foundation’s Migrant Worker Welfare Initiative Report

Three GU-Q alumni contributed to an important new report for the Qatar Foundation Migrant Worker Welfare Initiative titled “Migrant Labour Recruitment To Qatar” which examined foreign labour recruitment into Qatar. The former students are Aakash Jayaprakash (IPOL, Class of 2011), Umair Dogar (IPOL, Class of 2012) and Malik Habayeb (IPOL, Class of 2013).

The newly published study seeks to provide a better understanding of the individuals and institutions involved in the recruitment and hiring practices of migrant workers in Qatar, including more clarification on the processes that take place prior to departure from worker home countries as well as at the point of arrival.  The study further provides guidance on specific reforms that would address workers’ rights and improve workers’ living conditions in order to meet international labor standards. The three GU-Q alumni were acknowledged for their contributions to the report, which was written by Dr. Ray Jureidini, the Director of Research at the Center of Design Innovation at Qatar Foundation.
