Georgetown University in Qatar Graduates Help to Support Qatar’s Sustainable Economic Diversification and Development

Since the first class was awarded their diplomas in 2009, Georgetown University has graduated 212 students in total from the Qatar campus. And in only a few short years, our impressive alumni have pursued a wide variety of successful professional careers built on the foundation of our world-leading Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (B.S.F.S.) degree, a flexible, multidisciplinary curriculum focused on the study of international affairs which equips graduates with the vital skills they need to excel in a globalized world.

Our alumni can be found working at an impressive list of national and international organizations representing many different industries, including consulting, culture, education, energy, government, legal, non-profit, the public and private sector, public relations and media, research, technology, and graduate school.

A number of alumni, particularly Qatari nationals, work directly for the government of Qatar, employed by the the Amiri Diwan, Qatar Investment Authority, Qatar Central Bank, Supreme Committee for Legacy and Delivery and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other Qatari alumni have excelled in positions at major oil and gas companies, working in various positions spanning the horizon in strategic analysis, economic analysis, communications, legal and government relations.

GU alumni have also been integral in the creation and development of the nonprofit and civil service sector in both Qatar and internationally such as Teach for Qatar and Silatech. They have also taken key positions with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy as they prepare to undertake the necessary steps to host the climactic event, and in turn, promote professional sports as a key driver for Qatar’s development and growth.

Our alumni have also already begun contributing significantly to the Qatar National Vision (QNV2030) and the development of the State of Qatar. QNV2030 identifies key challenges and defines specific goals that must be achieved for the nation to transition to a sustainable knowledge economy beyond natural resources. Georgetown graduates are well placed to contribute to the economic, human, social, and environmental development pillars of this vision.

There is no doubt that the diversity of career paths of our graduates reflects the value and strong foundation that a Georgetown liberal arts and social sciences education and experience provides.
