Chair Bios
Mohamed T. Abouzaid is a senior at Georgetown pursuing a degree in International Politics. He was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. Abouzaid graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in the United States before joining Georgetown University. He has been involved in several MUN conferences since high school and continues his passion for MUN here at GU. He has always been interested in the role of the IAEA in the international political arena and is excited to chair the committee this year. This year’s conference will be interesting because of the escalating sanctions that are currently being enforced on Iran as well as the mounting military threats between Iran and Israel. He’s looking forward to meeting you all!

My name is William Cha and is my pleasure to serve you as the Secretary General for the upcoming GMUN 2013 - my last and 62nd conference. I served as both the Secretary General and President of the Human Rights Council for GMUN 2012. I am from South Korea and have lived in America and China (International School of Beijing for high school) prior to Qatar. I am in my last year of studies at Georgetown University, Edmund Walsh School of Foreign Service, in which I serve as the President of the Student Government Association. My major is International Economics and personal interests vary from investment banking and politics to performing arts and fashion. I look forward to greeting everyone in February.
I'm a Palestinian senior at Georgetown University in Qatar, majoring in International Politics with a focus on Arab and Regional Studies. I just got back from my study abroad semester in Turkey and I am currently writing a thesis on Religion, Democracy and the Arab World, with a case study on Turkish Political Parties. I graduated from the American School of Doha in '09.
I am majoring in International Economics and have worked on research projects related to development and impact evaluation of financial literacy among migrants to Qatar. I am passionate about debating and enjoy MUN immensely. I have represented Georgetown SFSQ for these activities at Qatar, the Netherlands, Botswana, Austria and the Philippines - and won a few awards while I was at it. I am from India and went to high school in Abu Dhabi.
I'm currently a senior pursuing a degree in International Politics and a Certificate in Arab and Regional Studies. As a Palestinian student of international affairs, I've been particularly interested in the UN's role vis-a-vis the Palestinian struggle for justice. I recently returned from the West Bank where I spent my summer interning at a non-profit that provides academic, athletic, and arts-based education programs to Palestinian refugee youth. Certainly, MUN served as an ideal platform to learn about the intricacies of the actual UN. I was first introduced to MUN through my high school - Middle East International School, where I attended my first MUN training session at Georgetown. I've since actively participated in various international MUN conferences from Lebanon to Vienna. On a local level, I had the pleasure of both chairing and co-chairing in our very own Georgetown MUN. I also recently concluded my study abroad in Istanbul, where I was fortunate enough to meet some of Turkey's policy makers and party officials.
Mohamad Khalil Harb (goes by MK) is a junior at Georgetown majoring in Culture & Politics with a certificate of Arab & Regional Studies. He was born and raised in the great city of Beirut, Lebanon and spent his last three years of high school in Doha, Qatar (of course at the Lebanese School of Qatar). He is currently spending the fall 2012 semester at the main campus in Washington, DC and will be back in the spring semester. MK is currently working as the co-director of programming for the International Development Conference hosted by UNICEF at Georgetown University, Washington DC and will resume his job in the spring as one of the MUN conference organizers. He has participated in various MUN conferences around the globe, such as VIMUN (Vienna, Austria) & SOFIMUN (Sofia, Bulgaria), and has previously worked as the Deputy Secretary General for Georgetown MUN. He sees MUN as the best depiction of Diplomacy in Action and hopes that you will enjoy the GUMUN 2013!
Nikhil Lakhanpal is a second-year student at Georgetown studying International Politics. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Nikhil graduated in 2011 from the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology. This is the second year that Nikhil is taking part in Model UN, responsible for the Press and Media components of the conference. In the past year, the sophomore has written for several different publications, including The Hoya and The Voice. Having extensively participated in different Model UN conferences in the United States, Nikhil is proud to bring his penchant for all things global to SFS-Q.
