Tuition and Fees

The Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar offers the same curriculum available on the Washington, DC campus, with Georgetown faculty members and the high quality long associated with the name Georgetown. Graduates of the School of Foreign Service in Qatar will receive a Georgetown diploma identical to the diploma issued to Georgetown graduates in Washington, DC.

By the same token, the cost of tuition on both campuses is the same. In the 2009-2010 academic year, tuition at the School of Foreign Service is $38,616 [140,948.40 QR], and it rises about 6 percent each year. Books and other fees are extra; high quality housing is available for international students in Education City and costs about $3,850 (14,000 QR) for an academic year.

Georgetown University practices need-blind admissions; an applicant's ability to meet college costs is not a criterion for admission.

Scholarships and Sponsorships

Citizens of the State of Qatar are eligible for sponsorship or scholarships via governmental agencies such as the Higher Education Institute of the Supreme Education Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other organizations. Admitted applicants will need to present the original letter of admission, an official TOEFL score report, and official high school transcript or other completion document to the sponsoring agency in order to move forward with the sponsorship or scholarship.

Non-Qatari students admitted to the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar may qualify for merit-based partial scholarships upon admission. Scholarship offers generally are announced in the letter of admission. These merit-based partial scholarships are limited and highly competitive. They are renewable, but renewal is subject to a review of the student's academic performance during each year of scholarship.

Students who are admitted without scholarship may be awarded a scholarship for any subsequent academic year, based on stellar academic performance.

All international (non-Qatari) students are also eligible to apply for need-based financial aid in the form of no-interest loans from Qatar Foundation to cover part or all of the cost of studying at SFS-Qatar. Financial aid applications may be submitted to Qatar Foundation at the same time the student applies to the university. Qatar Foundation staff will review the file for completeness, but will not make a decision on financial aid until or unless the student is admitted to an Education City university. The application is strictly online, and may be accessed via the Qatar Foundation website. It is the applicant's responsibility to submit a complete application with full documentation according to the Qatar Foundation instructions, and to follow up with Qatar Foundation regarding any additional information they might request.

US citizens and permanent residents ('green card' holders) may be eligible for federally funded student loans, and should submit a FAFSA form to Georgetown University for consideration. It is important to notify the SFS-Qatar Admissions Office if you plan to file a FAFSA or use any US-based college savings plan to fund your education.

Applicants are encouraged to investigate outside sources of funding as well.

Please visit Tuition Billing and Collection page for more information, including financial aid.
