Below you will find the nine committees that will be represented in the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar Model United Nations Conference in January 2009.

Each committee is staffed by a Chair, Vice Chair, and Chief of Staff. Further, the conference is run by a dedicated team of student staff including the Staff Manager, Committee Coordinators, Conference Staff, and Crisis Staff, all listed below.

A word from the Chair: Delegates should be prepared to give statements on all three topics. Topics should be thoroughly researched. No resolutions are required, but preferably delegates should come prepared with clauses to be included in resolutions.

A word from the Chair: Delegates should have a policy statement on each topic (policy should be of the department that the delegate is representing). Please be aware that the council will be run as if under President Obama, so delegates should research the particular person they are representing, if possible. Pay close attention to the foreign policy of the Obama administration.

A word from the Chair: NATO delegates should have an opening statement prepared in advance which will represent the position of the delegate's state. Also, the structure of the NATO council will follow official NATO rules in terms of voting procedures. Thus, all delegates should be aware that resolutions can only be passed by unanimous votes.

A word from the Chair: Delegates should come with a position paper on EACH of the topics; it should not be less than half a page or more than one full page. Both position papers should be handed over to the Chairs on the first day of the conference. We will be issuing a certificate for the delegate with the best position paper!

A word from the Chair: The African Union would like delegates to come prepared with draft resolutions of at least 5 clauses. Quality is emphasized over length. Delegates should also prepare one position paper per topic. The first session will consist of lobbying, with the following days focused on discussion of resolutions.

A word from the Chair: Please prepare a one page position paper for each topic. While setting the agenda, delegates will be required to relate their country's position on the topic - this should be drawn from a position paper. Delegates will not be required to submit this paper for review. Delegates should be informed that the topic, The International Response to Humanitarian Crises, will focus on the current humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Delegates are advised to thoroughly research their country.

Setup: Three teams of 12 students each; Al Jazeera International, BBC World, and CNN International
A word from the Chair: The MUN press committee will consist of three groups, i.e. news agencies. Each news agency will have 12 members on board. The first team will represent CNN International, the second Al Jazeera International, and the third BBC World. Over the course of the 4-day conference, each team is expected to produce three complete publications. The publications will focus on prominent events, sessions, and even individuals that would be of interest to our readers. Press committee members are expected to demonstrate dedication in their work whether it includes photography, public relations, or writing. The time frame of the conference means that optimum performance is demanded within the daily time constraints. Training and guidance will be provided for staff by the chairs of the press committee. The chairs will be available for assistance throughout MUN and will gladly answer any questions before or during the event.

Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar just concluded the Georgetown Pre-College Series (GPS) which gave prospective undergraduates a taste of college life and a unique opportunity to gain valuable information on the admissions process. On November 13 and 14, Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Qatar) and Institute for the Study of Diplomacy (ISD) hosted a crisis simulation exercise for students at Education City. (November 22, 2009) - Student Gets Education at International Finance Conference
This October, Georgetown student Miodrag Stamboldziev (SFS ’11) was able to put his international relations education to use while attending the Annual Meeting of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Istanbul, Turkey. (November 08, 2009)
