Financial Aid

There are several types of financial aid which may be available to SFS-Qatar students:

Installment Payment Plan: You may request an application for the Installment Payment Plan as soon as you receive your semester's bill.  Additionally, if you do not settle your entire bill by the semesterly deadline, you will automatically be put on the Installment Payment Plan for the remaining balance due. Fall payment deadlines will be the 15th of September, October, November and December. Spring payment deadlines will be the 1st of February, March, April and May. Submission of post-dated checks to the SFS-Qatar Office of Finance and Business Services ("SFS-Qatar Finance") made payable to ‘Qatar Foundation’ on the first installment date of each semester is preferred, but not required.

SFS-Qatar Finance will calculate the amounts which you will owe for each installment. You will be notified of these amounts before the first installment is due; however, you will not receive separate invoices for each installment. You will be responsible for providing SFS-Q Finance with payment before each due date.

Please note that even though you are on Installment Payment Plan, you could be blocked from registering for a subsequent semester (see Past Due Accounts). Contact Mrs. Khawla Hamzah in SFS-Q Finance for more information.

Ministry or Other Sponsorship: Qatari citizens may qualify for tuition sponsorship through the assistance of the Higher Education Institute ("HEI"). Please contact Mrs. Fawzia Al-Naama at the HEI Advising Center at +974-465-3065 or +974-465-3494 for further information. Students expecting ministry or other sponsorship must provide SFS-Qatar Finance with a copy of their award letter so that we may arrange to bill the sponsor on your behalf.

Work-Study: The Qatar Foundation ("QF") student employment program is aimed to help students in Education City gain work experience as well enable them to earn extra money while doing so. All students in Education City may work in any of the branch campuses or centers within Education City. To qualify for this program, a student must be enrolled in one of the branch campuses, Academic Bridge Program or Qatar Academy. A student may work up to 20 hours a week while classes are in session, and 40 hours during class breaks. Please contact Assistant Dean Brendan Hill in the Student Affairs Office for further information.

QF Merit Scholarship: A limited number of these scholarships have been provided through the generosity of the Qatar Foundation. Recipients of this scholarship will have the appropriate amounts automatically credited toward their bills. Any outstanding amounts must be paid in full.

QF Loan (Hamad bin Khalifa Financial Aid Program): The Qatar Foundation provides financial aid in the form of payments for a specified amount of tuition and other expenses on behalf of selected financial aid applicants while attending the universities in Education City. Please contact Ms. Arwa Sulieman Ibnouf in the Qatar Foundation Academic Office for further information.

Recipients of this type of financial aid must provide SFS-Qatar Finance with a copy of their award letter in order to have the appropriate amounts credited toward their bills. Any outstanding amounts must be paid in full.

FAFSA Aid (US citizens only): Many Georgetown students meet a portion of their college costs by borrowing through federally-sponsored and/or private student and family loan programs. The primary source of these loans is the Federal Stafford Loan Program. Some students with exceptional need may be offered a Federal Perkins Loan. 529 Plans also fall into this category. For more information, please see http://finaid.georgetown.edu/loans.htm or contact the Georgetown University Office of Student Financial Services at +1-202-687-4547.

Students may also wish to explore other funding opportunities that may be available to them through SFS-Qatar, including grants and internships.
