Anne Nebel is Interim Director of the Office of Academic Services, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar. She holds a BA in French Literature from Loyola University Chicago, an MA in Applied Linguistics with a specialization in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is completing a PhD in Applied Linguistics and Language Assessment at Lancaster University (UK).
Her doctoral research investigates cognitive complexity in high-stakes performance-based writing assessment tasks. Her other research interests include critical discourse analysis, stylistics, writing pedagogies, and writing across the disciplines. At Georgetown she teaches Critical Writing for International Affairs and is developing future elective courses in linguistics.
Before coming to Qatar she taught writing at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Roosevelt University (Chicago). She also developed and taught the course Research Methods in Applied Linguistics in the MA Applied Linguistics program at the Hellenic American University (Athens, Greece) where she held the position of Research Coordinator at the Center for Applied Linguistics and Language Studies.
