Dr. Bensky was born and raised in Perth, Australia, where he received his M.A. in French from the University of Western Australia before earning his Doctorat de L'Universite de Paris from the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Theater Studies. He has been teaching in the Department of French of Georgetown University for four decades as resident expert on French theater.

Dr. Bensky has written four books in France on subjects ranging from the symbolism of the puppet to contemporary French dramatists. He enjoys an extensive professional network in France among playwrights, directors and actors. He has directed major productions with students of Georgetown University, at both the French Embassy of Washington and the new Davis Center of Performing Arts on the main campus, the most recent being the world premiere of a new play by Ivorian author Amadou Kone. He has co-authored a satirical comedy with French philosopher and stateman Regis Debray.

Dr. Bensky also has a strong interest in poetry, having worked as a co-translator, with Mohammed Al-Odadi, of poems by Saudi writer Prince Khalid Al-Faisal. In his native Australia, he was strongly involved in championship debating, as both team-leader and national adjudicator. His interests also span philosophy and comparative mysticism. Dr. Bensky has been named Chevalier in the Ordre des Palmes Academiques. He intends to investigate all forms of performing arts in Qatar and around the Gulf.
