Phone Policy
SFS-Qatar provides office phones to staff and faculty to conduct business while at work, as well as phones at University-provided residential accommodation and mobile phones for all staff and faculty so that they can be contacted in case of any emergency.
In your offices, SFS-Qatar Office of Information Technology (‘OIT’) will provide you with a landline, which will allow for international and local dialing. The phone is reserved for business use only and international personal calls are strictly prohibited. On a quarterly basis, the Office of Finance will review international calling history by phone number to determine appropriate use by individual.
SFS-Qatar provides landlines in all residential villas and apartments leased by SFS-Qatar which are activated for local dialing only. In case you need to make international calls from your landline at home, calling cards are available at most grocery stores and supermarkets in Doha. In addition to the landline, SFS-Qatar also provides broadband ADSL connection in your villa or apartment. For further information, please click on the following links:
Mobile Phones
As per the SFS-Qatar Emergency Response procedure, all staff and faculty are required to be reachable at all times and mobile phones are being provided to aid in the communication process.
Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Qatar) mobile phone policy provides for a pre-paid SIM card to all SFS-Qatar staff and faculty members for the duration of their stay in Qatar. Once that credit has expired, employees will be responsible for "topping-up" credit on their pre-paid SIM card. Top-up cards are available at most grocery and convenience stores.
Staff may submit service bills for direct payment/reimbursement for approved business use to their supervisor. This includes use while acting in capacity of wardens, while traveling on business outside of Qatar and regular business calls within Qatar.
Some employees may receive SFS-Qatar funded cellular phone cards. Personal use is permitted for local calls on these phones, but all employees would need to reimburse SFS-Qatar for international personal calls made using SFS-Qatar funded cellular phone cards. Personal calls made on business trips are permitted. Refer to the Business Travel policy regarding threshold limits.
If you have any questions related to provision of mobile phones, please contact sfsqfinance@georgetown.edu.Office Phones
All offices will have phones activated for both local and international dialing. These phones should be reserved for business use. Employees should generally not use the office phone for personal calls. On a quarterly basis, the Office of Finance will review international calling history by phone number to determine appropriate use by individuals.
