Connecting to the Network and the Internet
Using the Georgetown Virtual Private Network (VPN)
All SFS-Qatar faculty and employees are required by Georgetown University to use a VPN client while connected to the network. You will not be able to access the Internet until a validated VPN session is established. In addition, you will need to be connected to the VPN in order to use library resources and print to networked printers.
We strongly recommend that you use the outside VPN while connecting to the Internet outside of the University's network
All University-issued computers will come with the Cisco VPN client already installed and configured. Please follow the instructions for using the VPN .
The Wired Network
Faculty and staff can connect to the university's network (and the Internet) using a data cable and an ethernet card. Each office will have a computer that is connected to the wired network. When connecting to a wall jack, you will use Georgetown's inside VPN service. If your computer does not automatically prompt you to sign onto the VPN when you start up your computer, please contact the OIT service desk at sfsqhelp@georgetown.edu.
Wireless Network
You can connect your computer to the Internet using a wireless connection on campus. The available wireless network is called "QFLink".
Wireless networking is available throughout Education City, including open spaces outside of the buildings and the dormitories.
When you turn your computer on, your computer should be already configured to connect to the QFLink network.
If you are using your personal computer to connect, you will need
For PCs: an 802.11b-compatible wireless card.
For Macs: an AirPort or 802.11b-compatible wireless card.
To order new or move existing jacks, contact the Office of Information Technology.
