Important Considerations

You would like to consider the following factors when deciding on your children's education:

Location: In addition to curriculum and seat availability, many parents consider location a prime factor. Doha is increasingly congested and proximity to either home or Education City is a consideration. Remember to check the location of the schools in relation to your housing choices and Education City.

Age/Grade Offered: Parents with pre-school age children should note that the age at which children can enter pre-school varies. A related issue is that some schools offer pre-K through the 6th grade only, or because they have opened relatively recently, will have a limited number of children in the upper grades. Parents whose children will attend middle or high school and/or those who plan to be in Qatar for an extended time apply early to schools that have fully-developed high schools.

School Atmosphere: There are many schools that offer an English language curriculum. While the faculty speaks English and teaches in English, often the bulk of the enrollment is non-native English-speaking. This may be a factor that affects school choice. Parents should observe the atmosphere in the schools first-hand and speak to HR staff and parents for their perspectives.

Early Application and Waitlists: The importance of applying early cannot be stressed enough. If your child is not accepted, he or she will most likely be placed on a waiting list. Sometimes the lists are so long that they are closed. However, parents place their children on several wait lists, so the long length of the waitlist is often misleading.
