Financial Aid
Q. Can I apply my Financial Aid award to the costs of studying abroad?
A. Yes, but with some restrictions. All qualifying study abroad programs must be pre-approved by the SFS-Qatar Office of Academic Affairs. QF Merit Scholarships and QF Loans can be applied toward the direct cost (tuition, insurance, room and board) of only one semester of study abroad, unless the full-year program is specifically authorized in advance by Qatar Foundation. Federal grants and loans (Stafford Loan, Perkins Grant, Plan 529, etc.) can be applied toward the cost of studying abroad for both semesters.

Tax (Sales) Exemption
Q. Do we have a tax exemption code through GU for business purchases? If so, how can I make sure that I don't get charged sales tax on a business purchase?
A. This link provides the jurisdictions under which Georgetown is exempt from US sales tax. For copies of the applicable certificates, the SFS-Qatar Office of Finance and Business Services will contact the GU Tax department. As a member of the Qatar Foundation, SFS-Qatar is exempt from paying Qatari sales tax, which is most often charged for hotel room and event space rental.
Vendors
Q. Can I use a company that I know is owned by the family of a SFS-Qatar student to provide SFS-Qatar with goods or services? Or can I hire the spouse of an SFS-Qatar employee as an independent contractor to do work for SFS-Qatar?
A. Yes. But a full written disclosure of any such relationship needs to be provided to the Office of Finance and Business Services before any contract can be entered into and any work can begin.
