Biographical Information for the Office of Admissions Staff

Charles NailenLiz Kepferle
Director of Admissions

Liz Kepferle has been working in the field of international education for more than 25 years, both as a teacher and as an administrator. Since 2005, Ms. Kepferle has held the post of director of admissions at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar; prior to that, she served for 12 years at Georgetown University's main campus in Washington DC as academic program coordinator and admissions officer for the Master of Arts in Arab Studies program. In addition to experience teaching English in Greece and Austria, and administrative work at the World Bank, Ms. Kepferle spent eight years in Egypt studying linguistics and teaching English as a foreign language and freshman writing at the American University in Cairo (AUC). She holds an MA in TEFL from AUC, and a BA in English literature from Yale University.

Nelly El ZayatNelly El Zayat
Associate Director

Nelly El-Zayat has been working in the field of international education since 1999 when she joined America-Mideast Education and Training Services' (AMIDEAST) Egypt office, as an Assistant Educational Adviser. Nelly left AMIDEAST in 2005, holding the post of Scholarship Programs Coordinator, and joined the Institute of International Education's (IIE) Scholarship Office in Doha, Qatar as Program Manager. She has been the Associate Director of Admissions at Georgetown University SFS-Qatar since 2006.

Trained as an economist at the American University in Cairo and with a Master's in Middle East Studies from the same school, Nelly believes that the economic development of the Middle East, and the whole world, depends primarily on education. She is also a member of the Association of International Educators (NAFSA) and has represented both AMIDEAST and the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar on several panels at NAFSA's regional and annual conferences.

Nelly El ZayatMounir Ouanaimi
Admissions Officer

Mounir Ouanaimi joined the Admissions office staff at SFSQ after a year of work at Qatar's Supreme Education Council, where he was a program manager for the IIE scholarship project in the Higher Education Institute.

Mounir has taught English as a foreign language in Rabat, Morocco, and Arabic as a foreign language at Idaho State University in Pocatello, where he was a visiting Fulbright scholar. In Morocco, he earned a BA in English Language and Literature () and an MA in Linguistics and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (University Mohammed V), both with honors. He also has experience with web content management, database design and management, and counseling/advising. Mounir has current research interests in Critical Discourse Analysis (comparative political discourse) and French politics.
