Biographical Information for the Office of Public Affairs Staff
Charles Nailen
Director of Public Affairs
Charles Nailen is the Director of Public Affairs Department in Georgetown University in Qatar. Charles has been with the GU Qatar team since the middle of 2006. His key responsibilities include managing media relations for School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Qatar), managing marketing efforts for the school and strategic communications. His leadership efforts focused building relationships with media outlets in Qatar, launching the new Website for SFS-Qatar, picthing stories in the Blue and Gray newspaper and creating partnership programs with the Qatar Foundation.
Charles is part of Georgetown community since 1999, starting with his undergrduate degree in School of Foreign Service. Charles is also a member of the Communications Technology Professionals Guild with publications on use of technology in education. He is also an active member of the SFS-Qatar Soccer Team as a striker.
Walaa El-Kadi
Assistant Director for Media and Communications
As the Assistant Director, Walaa El Kadi manages media inquiries in Arabic. She is responsible for creating media stories for Arabic speaking audiences both in Qatar and outside. Some of her ongoing tasks are coordinating press conferences, managing Public Relations activities for the School for Arabic-langauge media and creating relationship with the foreign press.
Walaa graduated from American University of Beirut with a degree in Journalism, and she brings six years of valuable media experience to SFS-Qatar. Walaa coaches the School's Girl's Volleyball Team and is a tutor in HELP program.
Murat Gungor
New Media and Communications Officer
Murat joined the SFS-Qatar Public Affairs Team in November 2007. He has been a member of the Georgetown University Community since 2005. During his studies at Georgetown University's Communication, Culture and Technology Master's Program, he worked at University Information Services as part of the KeyBridge Team. In this capacity, he executed Website launches for various departments across the Main Campus.
Besides his Web development background, Murat also brings his Marketing Communications experience to serve SFS-Qatar's online branding initiatives. After completion of his degree in Business Administration from Koc University, he worked for a multinational company as a member of the Marketing Team. Murat also holds an MA in Cultural Studies from Bilgi University.
