Student Government Hosts Charity Iftar
The Student Government Association at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar sponsored a charity iftar celebration for students and staff, as well as the rest of the Education City community. The evening’s festivities were held to benefit a variety of charities in Qatar.
Sponsored and hosted by the student government at Georgetown, the dinner featured a variety of traditional Arabic food, as well as dishes and desserts made by the University’s faculty and staff. Participation from the faculty and staff helped bring the student and staff communities together. “It was good to see the Education City community come together for this event,” student affairs officer Nalani Still said.
Community was a key theme for the evening’s event. “It was very fun,” Aakash Jayaprakash (SFS ’11) said. “It gave us a change to hang out with people from other campuses.” Aside from inviting the other branch campuses, the SGA also made arrangements to feature elements of Arabic culture. Numerous attendees waited in line to visit the henna artist, while others sampled a variety of Arabic sweets that were being cooked and served onsite.
Donations of money and clothes were taken up for the Preservation of Blessings Charity. In addition to the financial donations, extra food was boxed and given to those in need. According to SGA president Hanouf Al Buanain (SFS ’09), the event was a stellar success. “We collected over 5,600 QAR for charity.”
