Connecting to the University Network and the Internet
The Wireless Network
You can connect your computer to the Internet using a wireless connection on campus.
"SFS-Qatar" wireless network
In the LAS building, the available Georgetown wireless network is called "SFS-Qatar". This network is only available in the LAS building.
To connect to this wireless network:
- Turn on your computer and open any Internet browser.
- You will be directed to a login page where you should log in with your NetID and NetID password.
"QFLink" wireless network
The "QFLink" network is available in the LAS building and throughout Education City, including open spaces outside of the buildings and the dormitories.
To connect to this wireless network:
- Turn on your computer
- You may have to select "QFLink" from the list of available networks or your wireless adapter may automatically connect to the QFLink network.
- Once you are connected to the wireless network, you should open your web browser and you will be automatically directed to the QFLink home page. Log in as a guest user with your Georgetown University e-mail address.
For both networks, if you are using your personal computer to connect, you will need
For PCs: an 802.11g-compatible wireless card.
For Macs: an AirPort or 802.11g-compatible wireless card.
Using the VPN (Virtual Private Network)
For greater security, after you have connected to a wireless network you should connect to the university's VPN. All University-issued computers will have the VPN client installed and configured. You should see the following icon in your desktop:

Click on the icon and you will be prompted to enter your NetID and NetID login. Once you have successfully logged on you will see a yellow lock icon in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.
You must log into the VPN in order to:
- Access library databases and research resources
- Print to any networked printers
VPN Client for your personal computer
OIT highly recommends that you also use the VPN on your personal computer. If you are using your personal computer to connect, you will need:For PCs: an 802.11g-compatible wireless card.
For Macs: an AirPort or 802.11g-compatible wireless card
Please visit the OIT support desk if you require VPN on your personal machine.
