Georgetown University: School of Foreign Service in Qatar

New SFS-Qatar campus building Georgetown University: School of Foreign Service in Qatar

(OLD) Connecting to the Network and the Internet

The Wired Network

Faculty and staff can connect to the university's network (and the Internet) using a data cable and an ethernet card. Each office will have a computer that is connected to the wired network.  When connecting to a wall jack, you will use Georgetown's Internal VPN service.  If you do not already have a profile created for connecting to the internal VPN, you will need to create a profile.

The Wireless Network

You can connect your computer to the Internet using a wireless connection on campus. The available wireless network is called "QFLink".

Wireless networking is available throughout Education City, including open spaces outside of the buildings and the dormitories.

When you turn your computer on, your computer should be already configured to connect to the QFLink network.

If you are using your personal computer to connect, you will need

For PCs: an 802.11b-compatible wireless card.
For Macs: an AirPort or 802.11b-compatible wireless card.

To order new or move existing jacks, contact the Office of Information Technology.

VPN Clients

For greater security, you will log on to the university's network (and the Internet) using a VPN connection. All University-issued computers will come with a VPN client already installed and configured.

You will use a VPN connection with both the wireless and wired networks. If the computer you are using does not have VPN software, contact the Office of Information Technology.
