Georgetown University: School of Foreign Service in Qatar

Georgetown's Qatar campus has a very competitive admissions process, similar to that of Georgetown's Washington, DC campus, and open to students who demonstrate that they can handle the rigorous workload.

All applicants are expected to be in their final year of secondary schooling or beyond. We recognize that there are many different secondary school and examination systems. We receive and consider applications from students in a wide range of these systems, without discrimination as to system type.

The most successful applicants are able to demonstrate strength across the curriculum, with a special emphasis on both mathematics (up to and including the level of calculus) and reading- and writing-intensive courses such as English literature or history. The SAT/ACT and TOEFL/IELTS standardized testing requirements serve to corroborate the applicant's academic record, and/or to provide evidence of abilities -- particularly in math and English language facility -- when the high school course offerings do not.

Because of the competitive nature of our admissions process and the rigor of our curriculum, we recommend that students in the British system apply to us in their A-level year, that students in the International Baccalaureate program apply to us in their second year of the IB, and that students in the American system pursue AP courses when possible. Our admissions committee looks carefully at the high school record of every applicant, as well as at the score results on the required standardized tests.

In most cases, the selected applicants will receive offers of admission before we have seen the final record of high school performance, including A-level, IB, AP, and other final exam results. We make our admissions decisions based on the record as available at the time of review (March/April).  All decisions are provisional, and it is expected that the final exam results, which admitted applicants must turn in when they are available in the summer prior to matriculation, will match the record upon which basis the admissions decision was made.

Students from the Gulf region are invited to attend our fairs and presentations held every year in the major cities in the Gulf. We highly recommend that applicants start their application process early and take the required tests more than once. Georgetown University School of Foreign Service welcomes visits from potential applicants -- alone, in groups, or with family members. Our application deadline is 1 March. We do not accept applications submitted beyond this deadline.
