Student Health Insurance
To improve the health and wellness of the community, Georgetown University, SFS-Qatar requires registered students to have health insurance at all times. The state of Qatar provides national health coverage for all residents of Qatar, by providing them with a National Health Card. International students are eligible to obtain a National Health Card after receiving their Residence Permit. Georgetown will help international students to obtain their National Health Card.
To extend our students access to private health services, in addition to national health insurance, all enrolled SFS-Q students are required to have a supplementary private health insurance. For all students, SFS-Q has negotiated a comprehensive health and travel coverage, called StudentCare Plus Plan, underwritten by Interglobal Insurance Company.
It is SFS-Q Student Wellness Counseling responsibility to negotiate student health plans with insurance agents, administrate the enrollment of student health insurance plan, and facilitate claims issues with the insurance company, if students are not satisfied that they have received the benefits to which they are entitled, after they have appealed their claim.
For detailed benefits of enrollment in the StudentCare Plus Plan refer to StudentCare Medical and Travel Insurance Policy. You may also view a Summary of Benefits, List of Countries that are covered under your insurance policy and Insurance Premium Fees that would be charged to your student account. These documents along with Student Insurance Letter are sent to all students in the summer and are also included in the admission package. Because you are responsible for understanding your health benefits, carefully read the enrollment and benefit details, including the exclusions and limitations throughout the policy, especially page 9, and general exclusions on pages 20 and 21. Please notice that you have to get prior approval for all in-patient and day-care treatments and procedures from First Assistance in writing as directed by the policy (page 9).
You will be able to get reimbursement for covered expenses from insurance company by filling the appropriate claim forms: Claim Form for All Medical Related Expenses, Claim Form for Personal belongings and Loss of Luggage, and Claim Form for All Other Claims such as liability, cancellation and loss of tuition fee. Please following the instruction below:
- Complete all questions on your claim form in full and sign the declaration.
- Bring your claim form and all original receipt/s or other supporting documentation to Student Wellness & Counseling Center (SWCC) for collection.
- SWCC staff will stamp the claim form as confirmation of receipt of your evidence.
- SWCC will fax your claim form and FedEx the original receipts to the insurance company for processing your reimbursement.
If you have any question, please contact Student Wellness & Counseling Center in LAS 027A or call 467-8330.
Waiving StudentCare Plus Plan
If you already have an adequate private health insurance you may waive out of the StudentCare Plus Plan offered by SFS-Q. Your insurance should provide coverage in the State of Qatar with no less than $100,000 per illness and $100,000 per injury, some mental health coverage and travel insurance. You may want to remain covered under your current plan and enroll in the university insurance to maximize your health care access. Please compare your insurance policy with StudentCare Plus Plan policy to make a decision about waiving out of university insurance.
You can waiver out of university insurance by filling out the waiver section in the Student Insurance Letter that you recieve in the mail. All students have to attach a copy of their National Health Card and any additional insurance coverage they might have to this form and return it to Student Wellness Counseling before they are enrolled in classes.
