Application Details

  1. Personal data form: This form should be filled in on-line, as completely as possible. A hard-copy option is available if necessary. Please note that on this form and on every piece of the application, the first, middle and last name should be spelled EXACTLY as it is spelled on your passport, in order to ensure that all application elements can be assembled.
  2. Personal statement: This is your opportunity to convince the admissions committee, through thoughtful presentation – in your own words – of your interests and goals, that you would both contribute to and gain from an SFS-Qatar experience. As with every piece of the application, please proof-read carefully before submitting.
  3. Essay: Please follow the recommended length limit, remember that the admissions committee is looking for YOUR thoughts and ideas, and proof-read.
  4. Secondary school report: [this should include predictions, based on past performance of applicant, for IB, GCE, GSCE, A-levels or other pertinent exams if those exam results are not yet available]: This report should be submitted directly from the secondary school office to SFS-Qatar. If original documentation is not in English, it should be submitted along with an officially certified English translation. If your name as it appears on your school documents is different from your name as it appears on your passport, please make sure that both versions of your name are included in the submission from the school.
  5. Mid-year school report (if applicable): If additional grades become available between the date you originally submit the application and March 1, please submit this.
  6. Teacher’s report: It is important that any teacher submitting this report know you well as a student, and be able to comment on your performance in his/her class(es) as well as (if appropriate) outside class. Specific numbers and/or other supporting examples are very helpful. This report should be submitted directly from the secondary school office to SFS-Qatar. If original documentation is not in English, it should be submitted along with an officially certified English translation. If your name as it appears on your school documents is different from your name as it appears on your passport, please make sure that both versions of your name are included in the submission from the school.
  7. TOEFL or IELTS results* - TOEFL Institutional Code is 8750:
We recommend that you register to take the TOEFL or IELTS as soon as possible. If your native language (the language you speak at home) is English and all your schooling has been in English-language based schools, the TOEFL exam is not required. While we do not have a minimum required TOEFL score, it is expected that the most competitive candidates will have scores above 100 on the internet-based TOEFL (600 on the paper-based or 250 on the computer-based exam). Individuals with scores significantly lower than this may wish to re-take the exam and submit a new score. The highest score received is the one that will be considered. Institutional TOEFL scores will be considered, but official TOEFL results are preferred.
  8. SAT I or ACT results – SAT I tests math and English reading/writing: ACT tests math, science, and English reading/writing. Strong math scores are an important indicator of success in our required economics coursework, and strong English scores corroborate strong TOEFL or IELTS scores.
    • SAT Institutional Code is 4563
    • ACT Institutional Code is 0669
  9. Photocopy of passport data page(s): We use this to verify the exact spelling of your name. This is the name that will be used in the Georgetown University system.
  10. 240QR [$65] non-refundable application fee: The payment can be made by check or money order, made out to Georgetown University. Credit card payment is possible only for online applicants. Checks should be in Qatari riyals if at all possible.  The application fee is not refundable.
  11. SAT II results on 3 subject tests: SAT II results are preferred but not required. The subjects may be any of your choosing, but it is recommended that you choose subjects both that you will do well in and that will show your academic breadth.

*except for native speakers of English educated in English-language-only schools

Please note:

  • All of the above should be original documents or official copies from the issuing organization.
  • All documents submitted with the application become the property of Georgetown University and cannot be returned to the applicant.
  • It is strongly recommended that all of the above items be submitted together as one package.
